White-billed diver |
|
The white-billed diver at Hayle was a 'must see' bird - probably one that has given some of the best views of this species in Britain.
The massive ivory bill of the bird is stunning.
The bird is in extensive moult, and feeds close to people in Copperhouse Creek. It is clearly incapable of flight in its current condition.
The bird was feeding on small crabs that seemed to be of low nutritional value while I watched it.
The pessimist in me says that bird will die, the optimist says it will remain until it moults into summer plumage. Let's see!
