July 2024

16th-29th. St Ives. Birds seen from the Island included up to 700 Manx shearwaters/minute in the early mornings, 3 Balearic shearwaters, up to 60 common scoter, a dark-phase Arctic skua, up to 3 Sandwich terns, and 4 whimbrel. I also saw 2 hummingbird hawkmoths, up to 3 common dolphins and an ocean sunfish. There was a common sandpiper on Ryan's Field. On 26th I took the Marine Discovery catamaran from Penzance harbour on an ocean discovery trip. We had close views of a Cory's shearwater, saw a couple of harbour porpoise, and scores of common dolphins. Missed the minke whale though!
